On January 13th, the House of Representatives voted to impeach Donald Trump for the second time. Speaker Pelosi has named the Members of Congress who will serve as impeachment managers for the Senate trial. Notably, many of them were leaders in drafting articles of impeachment, including Reps. Raskin and Cicilline, and Rep. Lieu—who, along with Reps. Ilhan Omar and Ayanna Pressley, started drafting the articles of impeachment while sheltering in place during the Capitol attack incited by Trump.
The Senate Majority and Minority leaders must now use the emergency powers designated to them to immediately bring the Senate back in session, and begin impeachment proceedings in the Senate. Leader Schumer has already agreed to do this.
On January 12th, the New York Times reported that Mitch McConnell agreed that Trump committed impeachable offenses. We need to hold McConnell’s feet to the fire and call on him to join with Schumer to bring the Senate back for the trial now!
Call your Senators now and tell them to urge McConnell to use his emergency powers to immediately reconvene the Senate for Trump’s second impeachment trial, and that you expect your Senator to vote to convict and then disqualify Donald Trump from holding federal office in the future.
